Under him the Muslim navy won a number of naval victories including its first major naval battle against Constans II at the Battle of the Masts in 655 CE. Nach der Eroberung von Mekka im Jahr 629 ordnete Mohammed seine Hinrichtung an, doch wurde er von Uthman ibn Affan geschützt. ʿAbd Allāh wurde Statthalter von Oberägypten während des Kalifats von Uthman ibn Affan. Er war der Mitbegründer der ersten arabischen Flotte und versuchte, Nubien zu erobern. Dieses Unternehmen scheiterte.
