Aaron Russo was an entertainment businessman, filmmaker, libertarian political activist, and 9/11 conspiracy theorist. He is most known for producing the movies Trading Places, Wise Guys, and The Rose. Later in life he created the documentaries Mad as Hell, which calls into question the current state of governmental affairs and, which investigates the breadth of the Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, the IRS, and the Federal Reserve System.

Další jím produkovaný film s Danem Aykroydem a Eddiem Murphym, Trading Places (u nás znám jako Záměna) z roku 1983 se stal klasikou vysílanou o Vánocích, a ve filmu Teachers uvedeném o rok později na sebe upozornil Nick Nolte a Morgan Freeman. Russo za svou práci obdržel několik cen, jako Grammy, Emmy, a filmy, které produkoval, byly celkem šestkrát navrženy na Oskara a sedmkrát na Zlatý Glób, z nichž třikrát tuto cenu získaly. V 90. letech 20. století se dostal do potíží s IRS (americká obdoba finančního úřadu) a nakonec musel doplatit 2 miliony dolarů. Él mismo, afirmó que su peícula fue proyectada en Cannes, aunque el fondo de tal afirmación estaba en que donde realmente la había proyectado, era en la playa del municipio de Cannes, él mismo, sobre una pantalla hinchable portátil, y no en el Festival Internacional de Cine que se realiza en tal ciudad.
