Aachen dialect is the name of the dialect of Ripuarian Franconian spoken in the German Rhineland city of Aachen. This dialect, as part of the large West Germanic dialect continuum, is to a large extent similar to the dialects spoken in Eschweiler and in Stolberg, especially in Breinig. Aachen dialect has a tonal component, which, like Welsh English, is often described as "singsongy" by the layman.

It is perhaps closest to the Vaals (Vólsj) Bocholtz (Boches) and Kerkrade (Kirchröadsj) dialects, which are spoken in the Netherlands, only few miles away.
  • Als Öcher Platt bezeichnet man den Dialekt, der in Aachen gesprochen wurde und auch heute noch unter den alteingesessenen Aachenern gesprochen wird. Es ist eine Variante der Ripuarischen Dialektgruppe. Da die Buchstabenfolge „ch“ im Öcher Platt anders als im Hochdeutschen „sch“ ausgesprochen wird, wird die Eigenbezeichnung zwar Öcher Platt geschrieben, aber Öscher Platt (mit einem kurzen ö) ausgesprochen. Das Öcher Platt besitzt eine markante und für aus anderen deutschen Regionen stammende Menschen eigenartig klingende Sprachmelodie, die häufig auch als „Singsang“ bezeichnet wird.
