Das Haus an der Rue Nationale Nr. 32 trägt heute eine Plakette, die an die Entdeckung erinnert, allerdings Valz als Entdecker bezeichnet. Für seine Entdeckung wurde Laurent 1858 mit der Prix d´Astronomie- Medaille der Lalande-Stiftung ausgezeichnet. Ihm zu Ehren wurde der im Jahre 1876 entdeckte Asteroid (162) Laurentia benannt.

L'astéroïde fut découvert grâce à l'observatoire privé de la maison occupée auparavant par l'astronome Benjamin Valz, qui la quitta pour devenir le nouveau directeur de l'observatoire de Marseille. Il confia son ancien observatoire à A. Laurent, qui découvrit ensuite l'astéroïde. La maison, située au 32 de la rue Nationale à Nîmes, possède une plaque commémorant la découverte . Valz signala la découverte dans une lettre aux Comptes rendus des séances de l'Académie des Sciences . A. Laurent reçut le Prix d'astronomie 1858 de la Fondation Lalande (médaille) pour sa découverte, en même temps que d'autres découvreurs d'astéroïdes et de comètes . Planetoida została odkryta z prywatnego obserwatorium znajdującego się w domu należącym poprzednio do Benjamina Valza, który przeniósł się w tym czasie do Marsylii, gdzie objął kierownictwo nad tamtejszym obserwatorium. Valez przekazał opiekę nad domem Laurentowi, który w późniejszym czasie odkrył planetoidę. Na ścianie domu znajdującego się przy 32 rue Nationale w Nimes umieszczono pamiątkową tablicę upamiętniającą to odkrycie. Na cześć Laurenta jedną z planetoid nazwano 162 Laurentia.
