The 5th Arkansas Infantry, also called the Fighting Fifth was a Confederate Army infantry regiment organized in Arkansas to serve for the Confederate States of America during the American Civil War. The regiment was first formed in Greene County, Arkansas, and was immediately transferred for service to Corinth, Mississippi. Initially organized to serve for only one year, they would spend the duration of the war in the service of the Confederate Army, fighting in the western theater.

The regiment was commanded by Colonel John E. Murray, and would take part in the Battle of Pea Ridge, the Second Battle of Corinth, the Battle of Chickamauga, the Battle of Shiloh, the Atlanta Campaign, the Siege of Chattanooga, the Battle of Richmond, the second Battle of Franklin, and their final Battle of Bentonville. They would also take part in numerous small skirmishes. Col. Murray was killed in action during the Atlanta Campaign, and Captain William T. Jones would be awarded the Confederate Medal of Honor for valor during that same campaign. The regiment suffered heavy casualties over the course of the war, and mustered out shortly after the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia in 1865.
