21st Century Schizoid Band are a King Crimson alumnus group formed in 2002. The name derives from the famous song "21st Century Schizoid Man" from the first King Crimson album, In the Court of the Crimson King. The initial band featured Mel Collins on saxophones, flute and keyboards, Michael Giles on drums, Peter Giles on bass, Ian McDonald on saxophones, flute and keyboards, and joined by 'new guy' (and Michael Giles' son-in-law) Jakko Jakszyk on guitar and vocals.

The band has played live with sets concentrating on compositions from King Crimson's first four albums and other works from the band members' back catalogues. They have released three albums, mostly of live work, but including some new compositions. Ian Wallace, another former Crimson member, replaced Mike Giles in 2003, just before the third album. Wallace died in February 2007. The band has been inactive since 2007. They have had difficulty making touring financially sustainable and Jakszyk is considering leaving. Also, no news has come about a possible replacement for Ian Wallace.

The 21st Century Schizoid Band bestond in eerste instantie uit Michael Giles (drums & percussie), zijn broer Peter Giles (basgitaar) en Ian McDonald (saxofoon, dwarsfluit, keyboards), alle drie leden van de eerste set-up van King Crimson, Mel Collins (alt/tenorsaxofon, dwarsfluit, keyboards) van de volgende KC versie, aangevuld met Jakko M. Jakszyk (voormalig lid van Level 42) op gitaar en als lead zanger. Naast The 21st Century Schizoid Band maakt ook een nieuw samengesteld King Crimson nu zijn tournees. Ieder heeft wel een eigen voorkeur, de 21st Century Schizoid Band grijpt met name terug op het oude KC werk. Al snel, na een tournee in Engeland en een paar optredens in Japan besloot Michael Giles de groep te verlaten, hij had geen zin in het steeds rondreizen en optreden. Hij werd vervangen door Ian Wallace, ook een ex-King Crimson lid. De band ging door met optreden en trad sindsdien over de hele wereld op. Van de optredens zijn een aantal live-opnames op de markt verschenen, er zijn zelfs plannen voor het opnemen van nieuw materiaal met de band.
