The mascots for the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games were introduced on November 27, 2007. Inspired by traditional First Nations creatures, the mascots include: Miga - A mythical sea bear, part orca and part kermode bear. Quatchi - A sasquatch. He comes from the mysterious forests of Canada and dreams of being a hockey goalie. Sumi - An animal guardian spirit with the wings of the Thunderbird and legs of a black bear who wears a hat of an orca whale.

Mukmuk - A Vancouver Island Marmot described as "small and friendly", Mukmuk is not an official mascot but acts as their sidekick. As of December 2008 he has joined the other mascots as a plush toy, but not yet a life-size mascot costume. Miga and Quatchi are mascots for the Olympic Games, while Sumi is the mascot for the Paralympic Games. The mascots were designed by Vancouver-based Meomi Design. The first public presentation of the mascots took place before 800 schoolchildren at the Bell Performing Arts Centre in Surrey, British Columbia. Ces personnages de la firme Meomi Design sont inspirés des créatures des Premières nations canadiennes. Les mascottes ont été dévoilées le 27 novembre 2007 . Miga est une ourse de mer mythique, le croisement entre un orque et un ours Kermode (sous-espèce de l'ours présente uniquement sur la côte centrale de la Colombie-Britannique). Selon la légende des Amérindiens, les orques se seraient transformées en ours à leur arrivée sur la terre. Après quoi, ces ours seraient devenus blancs pour rappeler aux gens la saison de l'hiver. Quatchi est également une créature mythique, un Sasquatch. On retrouve cette créature de par deux légendes. La première, « la femme des bois », représentant le Sasquatch comme un personnage redoutable. La deuxième, « l’homme des bois », représentant plutôt la créature comme un géant timide. L'histoire du Sasquatch est également l'œuvre d'une légende moderne, celle du Bigfoot qui aurait été aperçu à différents endroits des forêts de l'Ouest de l'Amérique du Nord. Sumi manifeste la richesse ethnique et la transformation. Il est le croisement d'un orque, d'un ours ainsi que d'un oiseau-tonnerre, présent sur de nombreux totems amérindiens .
