Dynamo Dresden were back in the Regionalliga Nord for the 2006–07 season, aiming to bounce back to the 2. Bundesliga. They started very strongly, but manager Peter Pacult left the club in September to join Rapid Vienna, a club he'd represented as a player. Norbert Meier replaced him, and Dynamo remained on the outside of promotion contention, but after a poor end of the season, finished in 7th place. They were particularly let down by poor away form, winning only three games on the road.
