The 2/3rd Battalion was an infantry battalion of the Australian Army raised for service during World War II. A unit of the Second Australian Imperial Force, it was raised at Victoria Barracks, Sydney on 16 October 1939 as part of the 16th Brigade, attached to the 6th Division. The battalion fought in North Africa, Greece, Crete and Syria before returning to Australia to participate in two campaigns against the Japanese in New Guinea in 1942–43 and again in 1944–45.
