William Langewiesche (pronounced:long-gah-vee-shuh) (born June 12, 1955) is an American author and journalist who was also a professional airplane pilot for many years. Since 2019 he has been a writer at large for The New York Times Magazine. Prior to that he was a correspondent for The Atlantic and Vanity Fair magazines for twenty-nine years. He is the author of nine books and the winner of two National Magazine Awards.

Er schloss 1974 sein Studium der Anthropologie an der Stanford University ab und arbeitete in New York als Redakteur des Magazins Flying. Nach einer Ausbildung zum Piloten flog er bis 1990 Verkehrsflugzeuge. Auch sein Vater, Wolfgang Langewiesche, war Pilot und veröffentlichte 1944 das Standardwerk Stick and Rudder. An Explanation of the Art of Flying. In den frühen 1990er Jahren veröffentlichte Langewiesche erste Reportagen in der New York Times und im Atlantic.
