Vladimir Naumovich Vapnik (Russian: Владимир Наумович Вапник; born 6 December 1936) is one of the main developers of the Vapnik–Chervonenkis theory of statistical learning, and the co-inventor of the support-vector machine method, and support-vector clustering algorithm.

Trabalhou neste instituto de 1961 a 1990, tornando-se chefe do Instituto de Pesquisas de Ciência da Computação. No final de 1990 foi para os Estados Unidos trabalhar no Departamento de Pesquisas em Sistemas Adaptativos do Bell Labs da AT&T em . O grupo tornou-se depois Departamento de Pesquisa de Processamento de Imagens dos quando a AT&T foi desmembrada na Lucent Technologies em 1996.
