| - The Texan schooner Independence was one of the four schooners of the First Texas Navy (1836–1838). At the direction of Texas Governor Henry Smith, in 1836 Charles Hawkins took command of United States revenue cutter Ingham acquired by the Texas Navy and renamed Independence. After the Texas victory at the Battle of San Jacinto in April, 1836, Independence carried the Texas President and his captive, General Santa Anna, to Velasco, where the Treaty of Velasco was negotiated and signed. W 1836 , weteran służący w marynarkach Stanów Zjednoczonych i Meksyku, odwiedził gubernatora Teksasu Henry’ego Smitha, szukając zatrudnienia w nowej Marynarce Teksasu. Smith, któremu zaimponowały referencje Hawkinsa, wysłał go do Nowego Orleanu i przydzielił mu zadanie nabycia okrętu ze składu dla Teksasu. Transakcja odbyła się na początku stycznia 1836 i opiewała na sumę 1710 dolarów. (pl)
