The Ruthwell Cross is a stone Anglo-Saxon cross probably dating from the 8th century, when the village of Ruthwell, now in Scotland, was part of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of Northumbria. It is the most famous and elaborate Anglo-Saxon monumental sculpture, and possibly contains the oldest surviving text, predating any manuscripts containing Old English poetry. It has been described by Nikolaus Pevsner thus; "The crosses of Bewcastle and Ruthwell ... are the greatest achievement of their date in the whole of Europe."

(en) Krzyż z Ruthwell – kamienny krzyż anglosaski z miejscowości (południowa Szkocja). Krzyż powstał w swej pierwotnej postaci w VIII w. W czasie akcji niszczenia takich krzyży i posągów w latach 1642-1664 został uratowany dzięki ówczesnemu merowi Ruthwell, Gavinowi Youngowi, który nakazał rozłamanie krzyża na kilka części i ukrycie ich pod podłogą miejscowego kościoła. Części odnalezione przez w 1799 r., zostały przezeń z powrotem złożone w trakcie ćwierćwiecza prac rekonstrukcyjnych i od 1887 r. krzyż znowu stoi w kościele w Ruthwell. (pl)
