Leopold von Pebal (29 December 1826 – 17 February 1887) was an Austrian chemist. In 1851 he obtained his PhD at the University of Graz, followed by several years working as an assistant at the Joanneum. In 1855 he became a privat-docent of theoretical chemistry. Afterwards, he continued his education at Heidelberg, where he studied with Robert Bunsen (1811-1899) and Gustav Robert Kirchhoff (1824-1887). From 1857 onward, he worked as an associate professor at the University of Lemberg. His wide-ranging research included studies involving the composition of stearic and citric acid.

Ukończył studia chemiczne w Wyższej Szkole Technicznej w Grazu, w 1851 obronił pracę doktorską i pozostał na uczelni jako pracownik naukowy, a następnie został privatdozentem w Joanneum. W 1855 został docentem w dziedzinie chemii teoretycznej, następnie wyjechał do Heidelbergu, gdzie studiował z Robertem Bunsenem i Gustavem Kirchhoffem. W 1857 wyjechał do Lwowa, gdzie na tamtejszym Uniwersytecie uzyskał tytuł profesora nadzwyczajnego, był wykładowcą chemii do 1865, a następnie powrócił do Grazu. Zaangażował się w prace nad powstaniem Instytutu Chemii, który miał służyć jako modelowy dla wielu szkół wyższych m.in. z Berlina, Strasburga i Zurychu, prace w te ukończył w 1878. Continuou depois sua educação em Heidelberg, onde foi aluno de Robert Bunsen (1811-1899) e Gustav Kirchhoff (1824-1887). A partir de 1857 foi professor associado da Universidade de Lviv.
