Dedre Dariel Gentner (born c. 1944) is an American cognitive and developmental psychologist. She is the Alice Gabriel Twight Professor of Psychology at Northwestern University. She is a leading researcher in the study of analogical reasoning.

Dendre Gentner – amerykańska psycholog, profesor Northwestern University. Sformułowała tzw. teorię mapowania struktur (ang. structure-mapping theory). Znana jest przede wszystkim z badań nad rozumowaniem przez analogię. Jej zainteresowania badawcze obejmują również modele mentalne, problematykę związaną z językiem i myśleniem oraz nauką słów przez dzieci. W 2016 r. otrzymała Nagrodę Davida E. Dedre Gentner (* 1945) ist eine US-amerikanische Psychologin und Kognitionswissenschaftlerin. Gentner studierte ab 1962 Physik an der University of California, Berkeley, mit dem Bachelor-Abschluss (B.A.) 1967 und wurde 1974 an der University of California, Davis, bei Don Norman in Psychologie promoviert. Ihre Dissertation war über Besitz-Verben. Damals arbeitete sie auch mit David Rumelhart zusammen. 1968 bis 1970 war sie Schullehrerin in Achimota in Ghana. 1974 bis 1977 war sie Assistant Professor an der University of Washington und 1977 bis 1982 bei Bolt, Beranek and Newman. 1984 wurde sie Associate Professor und 1989 Professor für Psychologie an der University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. 1990 wechselte sie als Professorin an die Northwestern University, ab 2007 als Alice Gabriel Tw (de)
