Sir David Brunt, KBE, FRS (17 June 1886 – 5 February 1965) was a Welsh meteorologist. He was Professor of Meteorology at Imperial College, London from 1934 to 1952. He was Vice-President of the Royal Society from 1949 to 1957. The Brunt Ice Shelf in Antarctica is named after him. Between 1936 and 1939 he contributed to a theoretical understanding of fog dispersal, information used in the development of the FIDO fog dispersal system. He was made a Knight Bachelor in 1949 and appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) in 1959.

  • David Brunt KBE (* 17. Juni 1886 in , Wales; † 5. Februar 1965) war ein britischer Meteorologe. Brunt war der Sohn eines Bergarbeiters im Kohlenbergbau im Bezirk Monmouthshire in Wales. Brunt studierte ab 1904 Mathematik, Physik und Chemie am University College of Wales in Aberystwyth mit dem Bachelor-Abschluss in Mathematik 1907 und an der Universität Cambridge (Trinity College). Danach war er ein Jahr Lecturer in Mathematik an der University of Birmingham und zwei Jahre am Monmouthshire Training College in Caerleon. Im Ersten Weltkrieg war er ab 1916 Meteorologe bei den Royal Engineers und später bei der Luftwaffe. Nach Kriegsende war er im Meteorological Office.
