Choanal atresia is a congenital disorder where the back of the nasal passage (choana) is blocked, usually by abnormal bony or soft tissue (membranous) due to failed hole development of the nasal fossae during prenatal development. It causes persistent rhinorrhea, and with bilateral choanal atresia and obstructed airway that can cause cyanosis and hypoxia.

rdfs:comment	Als Choanalatresie (auch Atresia choanae) wird der angeborene membranöse oder knöcherne Verschluss der hinteren Nasenöffnung bezeichnet. Bei zehn Prozent der Betroffenen ist dieser Verschluss membranös, bei 90 Prozent knöchern. Die Choanen, als paarige hintere Nasenöffnung, bilden den Übergang vom Nasenraum in den Rachenraum. Atresie kommt aus dem Griechischen ἄτρητος atretos in der Bedeutung „ohne Öffnung“. Den unvollständigen Verschluss nennt man Choanalstenose.Es gibt die selteneren vorderen Nasenatresien, die sich 1 bis 2 cm vom Naseneingang entfernt befinden. Die mittleren Atresien sind meistens als Folge von chronischen Nasenmuschelentzündungen erworben. Der teilweise Verschluss wird als Synechie bezeichnet. (en) Atrezja nozdrzy tylnych (łac. atresia choanae, ang. choanal atresia) – wada rozwojowa polegająca na wrodzonej niedrożności nozdrzy tylnych. Atrezja może być jedno- (60%) albo obustronna (40%); wada jest częstsza u płci żeńskiej. Na ogół zarośnięcie jest częściowo kostne, w 5-10% przypadków wyłącznie łącznotkankowe. Może towarzyszyć innym zaburzeniom: rozszczepowi podniebienia, zarośnięciu lub zwężeniu jam nosa, wrodzonej torbieli zastoinowej woreczka łzowego (mucocele), przepuklinie oponowo-mózgowej i guzom pochodzenia zarodkowego. Leczenie wady jest chirurgiczne. (pl)
