The Battle of Călugăreni was a battle in the history of early modern Romania. It took place on 23 August [O.S. 13 August] 1595 between the Wallachian army led by Michael the Brave and the Ottoman army led by Koca Sinan Pasha. It was part of the Long Turkish War, fought between Christian and Ottoman forces at the end of the 16th – beginning of the 17th centuries. The whole Ottoman force was estimated at 100,000 men, but not all of their troops were on the battlefield at Călugăreni. It seems that only about 30,000-40,000 Ottoman soldiers were involved in the battle.

Турецкие силы насчитывали 100 тысяч человек, но не все их войска были на поле боя в Кэлугерени. Считается, что в битве непосредственно участвовали от 30 до 40 тысяч турецких солдат. В распоряжении Михая Храброго было от 15 до 16 тысяч солдат, в том числе 12 орудий с расчётами из трансильванских секеев. Битва завершилась победой армии княжества Валахии. Elle opposa le voïvode Michel le Brave de Valachie à la tête d'une armée de 16 000 hommes, à une armée ottomane de 30 000 à 40 000 hommes commandée par Koca Sinan Pacha. La bataille s'est déroulée en trois phases dans des marais au sud de Bucarest. Michel le Brave, bien qu'étant resté maître du terrain en raison de sa très bonne connaissance des lieux et de ses habiles tactiques, dut se replier car il n'aurait pu faire face à une nouvelle attaque. Le résultat est en fait indécis, mais l'historiographie et la filmographie roumaines ont fait de cette demi-victoire un épisode glorieux. Si svolse il 23 agosto del 1595 (13 agosto nel vecchio computo) tra l'armata valacca guidata da Michele il Coraggioso (Mihai Viteazul) ed i turchi al comando di Sinan Pasha. L'entità dell'armata ottomana che partecipò alla lotta è ancora oggetto di discussione: c'è chi parla di 70.000 e chi di 180.000 effettivi; stando a quanto riportato dall'ambasciatore spagnolo si sarebbe invece trattato di soli 20.000 turchi schierati contro 10.000 valacchi. W roku 1594 wojska hospodara Wołoszczyzny Michała przyłączyły się do ligi antytureckiej. W tym samym roku siły te składające się z 8000 Wołochów oraz 2000 Węgrów rozpoczęły ataki na garnizony tureckie. 21 sierpnia 1595 r. armia turecka ruszyła na Bukareszt przekraczając Dunaj. Siły tureckie liczyły 100 000 żołnierzy i były dowodzone przez Sinana Paszę. (pl)
