Alexandru Proca (October 16, 1897, Bucharest – December 13, 1955, Paris) was a Romanian physicist who studied and worked in France. He developed the vector meson theory of nuclear forces and the relativistic quantum field equations that bear his name (Proca's equations) for the massive, vector spin-1 mesons. He became a French citizen in 1931.

  • Alexandru Proca (* 16. Oktober 1897 in Bukarest; † 13. Dezember 1955 in Paris) war ein rumänisch-französischer Physiker. Proca ging zum Studium nach Paris, wo er sein Physik Diplom bei Marie Curie erwarb und ab 1925 in deren Radium Institut arbeitete. Er wurde 1933 bei Louis de Broglie in theoretischer Physik promoviert (Über die relativistische Theorie von Dirac´s Elektron). Zur Prüfungskommission gehörten auch Léon Brillouin und Jean Perrin. 1929 wurde er Herausgeber der Annales de l´Institut Henri Poincaré. 1934 war er mit einem Rockefeller Stipendium bei Erwin Schrödinger in Berlin und bei Niels Bohr in Kopenhagen, wo er auch Werner Heisenberg und George Gamow traf.
