It is used to broadcast musical programming, educational programming and programmes in minority languages. The channel started in 1955 as Sweden's second radio channel. On 1966, SR gave its channels different profiles, making P2 the channel for educational programmes, regional programmes and \"serious\" music. The regional radio was replaced by the local radio and moved to P3, and eventually to P4, giving P2 the profile it has today. The music played on P2 is mostly classical music, jazz and folk music.
