- المادة السامة (بالإنجليزية: Toxicant) هي أي مادة تعطي تأثيرا سميا. أما في الاستخدام العام، فتستخدم للمواد التي صنعها البشر أو التي توجد في الطبيعة بسبب التأثير البشري، بخلاف الذيفان التي توجد بشكل طبيعي بواسطة الالكائنات الحية. (ar)

Tokso estas farita de homoj aŭ enmetita en la medio fare de homa agado. Tio kontrastas kun toksino, kiu estas veneno produktita nature de organismo (ekz. planto, animalo, insekto). El la radiko tokso oni povas aliri la jenajn esperantajn vortojn: toksa, toksi, toksado, tokseco, toksiĝi, toksiĝemulo, toksomanio,toksomaniulo, toksologo, toksologio, antitokso, kontraŭtokso, sentoksigi, sentoksigado, teletokso, teletoksado.
