- Exodus is the title given to an Old English alliterative poem in the 10th century Junius manuscript (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Junius 11). Exodus is not a paraphrase of the biblical book, but rather a re-telling of the story of the Israelites' flight from Egyptian captivity and the Crossing of the Red Sea in the manner of a "heroic epic", much like Old English poems Andreas, Judith, or even Beowulf. It is one of the densest, most allusive and complex poems in Old English, and is the focus of much critical debate. (en)

Bien que ce récit provienne de l'Ancien Testament, le poème est imprégné d'exégèse chrétienne, le voyage des Hébreux correspondant allégoriquement à la vie d'un membre de l'Église. - Exodus is een Oudengels gedicht dat bewaard is gebleven in het Junius-manuscript, dat zich bevindt in de Bodleian Library in Oxford. Het werk werd door Franciscus Junius ten onrechte toegeschreven aan Caedmon. Het gedicht is geen hervertelling van het hele Bijbelboek Exodus, maar richt zich voornamelijk op de passage die gaat over de tocht door de Rode Zee en de achtervolging van het Joodse volk door de Egyptenaren. De gebeurtenis wordt beschreven als een heldenverhaal, met Mozes in de rol van generaal. Het verhaal wordt onderbroken door een vertelling over Noach en over de offering van Isaak door Abraham. Mogelijk gaat het hier om latere toevoegingen aan het gedicht. (nl)
